Cleland Nursery

Offer your child a confident start with Montessori inspired care from six weeks to five years.

Children playing in the nursery garden

For more than 25 years, North Lanarkshire families have relied on Viewpark Montessori Nursery to help their children grow up settled and happy.

We spend time getting to know your child, including the routines that comfort them and the subjects that pique their curiosity. During play, they can follow these interests while familiar adults remain close, helping them as they gain greater independence.

Our complimentary settling sessions enable you and your child to get to know us before their first full day.

A local day nursery in proximity to Cleland with three spaces

Each of our three playrooms gives children room to enjoy their current stage, with care and activities adapted to their needs.

Together, we’ll talk about when your child feels ready for the next room, enabling each one to advance at a comfortable pace.

Little Acorns from the age of 6 weeks to 2 years

Little Acorns is a little peaceful room where your baby can have cuddles, floor play and early discoveries with people who know them well.

Routine mealtimes create a reassuring daily rhythm and help maintain a secure environment, with morning snack at 8.30 am, lunch at 11.30 am and afternoon snack at 3.00 pm.

During this time, we attend to your baby’s needs, allowing opportunities for playtime and sleep whenever necessary.

When your baby comes home, we’ll tell you all about their meals, naps and the special little moments you missed, so you can feel connected to their whole day.

Sitting in the sand tray

Bright Blossoms between 2 and 3 years

At Bright Blossoms, curious toddlers are gently encouraged to try things independently.

Pouring drinks for themselves during snack time and finding their named peg offer simple, manageable opportunities to practise independence, with support provided when required.

The same patience continues throughout toilet training. We respond to your child’s signals and work closely with you, creating consistency between home and nursery.

We understand that small accidents naturally occur during learning, so we never make a fuss.

Our caring service recognises that your little one learns something new each day, while we guide them with care at a pace that works for them.

Songs and everyday conversations, along with stories, help children explore unfamiliar words. If you have concerns about your child’s speech, our facility will work with you to provide the most effective support.

When emotions become too intense, we help children identify, understand, and process them.

Exploring the snow in the garden

Mighty Oaks designed for ages 3 through 5 years

At Mighty Oaks, we help your child build the confidence required for beginning school and moving into more formal education.

Daily achievements, such as putting away their coat or seeking assistance from an adult, enable them to practise managing tasks on their own.

Participating together helps children as they develop listening skills, learn to take turns and solve problems with their friends.

Through enjoyable activities, children encounter stories, counting and early writing, helping them build these skills through playful learning.

Close friendships developed here frequently carry on into P1, providing familiarity at that important next step.

Running under the trees

A child-centred nursery close to Cleland

Viewpark’s Montessori inspired method prioritises the learning children attain independently.

We blend this with modern early years practice, making room for outdoor exploration, creative play and the ideas children bring into nursery.

Cultivating independence at an early age

Children are supported in making choices and contributing to nursery life by tidying up after snacks and looking after their surroundings.

We allow them time to practise, offering assistance whenever required, so they can experience the confidence gained through doing things independently.

Outside play throughout every season

Youngsters, including our youngest babies, are outdoors in every type of weather throughout the year.

Watching the trees and feeling the grass under their feet gives younger children with fresh details to discover, while older children can run, scramble and dig freely.

Spending time being active outside enables children to improve their balance and coordination while developing confidence in their abilities.

Things can get messy! Dress your child in clothes you do not mind getting muddy, with suitable outdoor layers for the conditions.

Please mark all belongings, while our staff remain available to clarify what is suitable to bring for their age before they start.

Handling different textures, pouring water and creating painted marks support them explore through their senses and find new ways to express themselves.

Your child can try out an idea, observe the result and try once more.

Our staff encourages curiosity, allowing children time to investigate topics that interest them and develop confidence in what they discover on their own.

Wellbeing and security for all child

The team receives ongoing safeguarding training, as well as first aid and health and safety training.

We complete regular risk assessments and maintain our fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, water safety and electrical safety checks.

When a child has an accident, they receive immediate comfort and first aid whenever it is needed.

Upon collection, we will explain and document every accident. We will telephone you straight away if a head bump or any injury needs additional attention.

Free advice sessions from our team

At Viewpark, we advise scheduling at least three settling sessions before your child attends their first complete day at nursery.

Every session is free, and any additional appointments will be arranged to suit your family’s needs.

You are welcome to remain for as long as necessary, though we generally recommend stepping away briefly, as this gives our friendly team and your child the opportunity to start developing their own special relationship.

Comforters and dummies are also welcome.

Often raised questions about our early years facility near Cleland

Exactly what does the term Montessori represent at Viewpark’s Nursery?

Established as a Montessori nursery, we have retained its enduring values of independence, curiosity, respect and hands on learning. Today, while no longer solely Montessori, we weave these principles into modern early years practice, creating space for each child’s unique interests to guide their journey.

Do you have a nursery waiting list?

Availability for children varies across the year. Some rooms might have immediate openings, while others may operate waiting lists. Please contact us early, even if you do not require a place immediately.

Can an alternative person retrieve my kid?

Yes, provided you inform us beforehand. Someone we have met previously may collect your child with your authorisation. However, if they are unfamiliar to us, they must provide the password we agreed on before we hand over your child.

Does my kid need to be able to use the toilet for the Mighty Oaks?

As children move up to Mighty Oaks, we usually request that they are toilet trained. If your child has a medical condition or additional support needs, we will identify the best approach together with you.

What days is the nursery not open?

We are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday, the final Monday in May, the September Weekend, and for two weeks over Christmas and New Year, scheduled as closely as possible around North Lanarkshire school holidays. Any additional closures are announced well ahead of time via our newsletters.
