Stepps Nursery

Provide your child a confident start with Montessori inspired care from 6 weeks to 5 years.

Children playing in the nursery garden

For over 25 years, North Lanarkshire families have placed their trust in Viewpark Montessori Nursery to help their children feel settled and content while they grow.

We spend time understanding your child, from the routines that reassure them to the interests that stimulate their curiosity. During play, they can explore those interests, with familiar adults nearby to support them as they learn to do more for themselves.

Our complimentary settling sessions enable you and your child to familiarise yourselves with us before attending their first entire day.

If you are seeking a nursery near Stepps, come and see us nearby to meet the team, look around our playrooms and decide whether Viewpark suits your family.

A nursery centre near Stepps with three rooms

Our three playrooms all provide children with space to flourish at their present stage, supported by thoughtful care and appropriate activities.

We will discuss when they are ready to move into the next room, ensuring every child takes this step in their own time.

Little Acorns aged 6 weeks to 2 years

Little Acorns is a peaceful, comfortable room where your baby can enjoy cuddles, enjoy floor play and make early discoveries with familiar people who know them well.

Consistent mealtimes establish a comforting daily rhythm, helping foster a safe environment, with morning snack at 8.30 am, lunch at 11.30 am and afternoon snack at 3.00 pm.

Around these, we address your baby’s needs, leaving time for playing and sleeping whenever needed.

When you collect your baby, we will discuss their feeding and sleep, then tell you about the small moments you missed, so you feel included in their day.

Sitting in the sand tray

Bright Blossoms aged 2 to 3

At Bright Blossoms, inquisitive toddlers receive ample encouragement to try things independently.

At snack time, pouring their own drinks and locating their named peg provide small, manageable opportunities to practise independence, with assistance on hand whenever required.

That same patient approach also applies to toilet training. We respond to your child’s cues and work alongside you to maintain consistency across home and nursery.

Small accidents are a normal part of learning, and we respond without making anything of them.

Our supportive service understands that your little one learns something new every day, and we help them progress at a pace that suits them.

Songs, stories and everyday conversations help children explore unfamiliar words. If you have concerns about your child’s talking, our facility will collaborate with you to provide the best possible support for your child.

When feelings feel overwhelming, we help children identify them and learn to cope with them.

Exploring the snow in the garden

Mighty Oaks aged 3 to 5 years

At Mighty Oaks, we support your child build the confidence required for starting school and progressing into more formal education.

Small everyday victories, from hanging up a coat to asking an adult for help, boost their confidence in managing things on their own.

Playing together helps children as they build listening skills, learn to take turns and resolve problems with their friends.

Stories, counting and early writing are included in activities they enjoy, helping them to develop these skills through playing.

Strong friendships formed here often continue into P1, making that major next step feel familiar.

Running under the trees

A Montessori nursery adjacent to Stepps

Viewpark’s Montessori inspired approach attaches importance to the learning that children pursue on their own.

Alongside modern early years practice, we provide space for children to explore outside, play imaginatively and shape nursery life with their own ideas.

Developing autonomy in early childhood

Children are encouraged to make decisions and take an active role in life at nursery, from clearing away after snacks to looking after their surroundings.

We allow them time to practise, with support available whenever they need it, so they can enjoy the confidence that comes from doing something independently.

Outside play during each season

Youngsters, including our youngest infants, spend time outdoors all year round, regardless of the weather.

Observing the trees and feeling the grass under their feet offers younger children fresh discoveries, while older ones can run, climb and dig.

As children move freely outdoors, every step strengthens their balance and coordination, whilst quietly developing confidence in everything they can do.

Things can get delightfully messy! Please clothe your child in clothing appropriate for mud, along with outdoor layers suited to the weather.

Kindly label all their belongings, and our staff is always ready to clarify what children of their age should bring before they start.

Hands-on education through messy play

In our nursery close to Stepps, children are able to investigate paint, water, sand and mud in a variety of engaging ways.

As they experience different textures, pour water and make marks using paint, they explore using their senses and find fresh ways to express themselves.

Your child is able to test an idea, see what happens and retry.

Our team fosters curiosity and provides children with time to remain engaged with whatever captures their interest, enabling them to gain confidence in their own discoveries.

Welfare and security for every child

Located near Stepps, our nursery operates a secure access system, while children are supervised all day.

The team receives continued safeguarding training, together with first aid and health and safety training.

We carry out routine risk assessments, maintain our fire safety equipment and perform checks for emergency lighting, water safety and electrical safety.

If a child has an accident, they receive immediate comfort and first aid when necessary.

At collection, we document and explain each accident, whereas each bump to the head or injury needing additional care prompts an immediate call to you.

Cost-free settling meetings from our staff

At Viewpark, we recommend scheduling at least three settling sessions prior to your child starts their first full day at nursery.

Each session is free, and any additional appointments will be arranged to suit your family’s needs.

You are welcome to remain for as long as needed, although we usually advise stepping away briefly, as this gives our welcoming team and your child the chance to start developing their own special bond.

Comforters and dummies are also welcome.

What Montessori stands for at our Viewpark Nursery

Originally established as a Montessori nursery, we have maintained its emphasis on independence, curiosity, respect and practical learning. Although we are no longer exclusively Montessori, we unite these principles with contemporary early years practice, adapting our approach to each child’s interests.

Do you have a nursery waiting list?

Child vacancies fluctuate throughout the year. Some rooms may have spaces available, while others operate waiting lists. Get in touch with us in advance, even if you do not require a place immediately.

Can someone different collect my child?

Certainly, provided you inform us beforehand. Someone we have met previously may pick up your child with your consent. If the person is not known to us, they must give us the password you agreed with us before we release your child.

Will my kid have got to be potty trained for Mighty Oaks programme?

We generally expect children progressing to Mighty Oaks to be toilet trained. If your child has a medical condition or additional support needs, we’ll collaborate with you to agree the most suitable approach.

Which days is the nursery shut?

We shut on Good Friday and Easter Monday, the last Monday in May, the September Weekend, plus two weeks over Christmas and New Year, co-ordinated as closely as possible with North Lanarkshire school holidays. Any additional closures are announced well in advance through our newsletters.
